Dunedin Technical claimed second place, four points behind champion Caversham, when it finished its season with a tough 4-2 victory over a spirited Roslyn Wakari side at Tahuna Park on Saturday.

Technical can thank spring-heeled striker Taylor McCormack, who used his finishing prowess to secure a well-taken hat trick. Starting the game with a gentle southerly behind it, Technical looked the more dangerous of the two sides in the opening 30 minutes.

It took the lead on 33 minutes when McCormack was adjudged to have been fouled in the penalty area. He stroked home the resulting penalty past Roslyn keeper Mike Rae.

Technical's lead was doubled on 51 minutes when Alistair Rickerby delivered a good pass to set Tom McBride free on a long direct run into Roslyn's penalty area.

Goalkeeper Rae did well to block McBride's initial attempt but his partial save fell directly into McCormick's path and he finished with ease.

Talented midfielder Ross Howard showed his class on the ball with some composed play on 66 minutes when he found time and space under close defenders' scrutiny to deliver a strong right-sided cross into the six-yard box.

Roslyn's hurried clearance went straight to McCormick, who powered the ball into the roof of the net from 10m to claim his hat trick.

Roslyn's second-half performance grew in confidence as its players strung passes together, and the Ellis Park side deservedly got on the scoresheet when front runner Damo Foster made a great diagonal run to beat the offside trap.

He controlled and finished with composure past keeper Tom Batty to reduce the deficit to 3- 1. McCormick had a hand in his side's fourth when Aaron Burgess set him free with a deft back-heel.

He attacked the six-yard box with purpose and his well-driven cross in front of goal was turned into the net by a Roslyn defender's attempted clearance. Impressive Roslyn midfielder Cam Attwood had the final say, when he met a corner with a strong header to finish the scoring.

At Memorial, Green Island's Conner Neil scored arguably his team's most important goal of the season to give the visiting side a closely-fought 1-0 victory over host Mosgiel.

The win for Green Island relegated Northern into the wooden-spoon position and bumped Green Island up into seventh place for the 2014 season.
