Fancy a bit of a dance on a global stage?

The search is on for an energetic, flexible and vibrant person to assume a key role when Dunedin hosts games in the Fifa Under-20 World Cup next year.

Tournament organisers have put out the call for anyone interested in strutting their stuff as a mascot at the seven games being held at Forsyth Barr Stadium in May-June.

They want someone with a little bit of spark, a dash of dancing ability and a whole lot of cheer.

Oh, and the Dunedin organisers are setting their sights high - they want the ''best mascot the world of football has ever seen''. No pressure, then.

The successful applicant must be between 167cm and 177cm tall, over the age of 18 and fit a shoe size between 38 and 46 (European).

Organisers have invited people associated with football, theatre and dance groups to enter, but anyone is welcome to have a crack.

The closing date for audition videos (fifau20.co.nz/mascotdancer/register.html) is September 30.

A panel will view the audition videos and select five finalists from each region to go through to live auditions in front of a local panel.

The mascot costume is under wraps and will be launched in Dunedin at the Santa Parade on December 7.
