Brent McEwan
It was a most successful three days for Compton Pikari
(Waikato) who followed his New Zealand foursomes win on Friday
with an 11-under-par, four-round total of 277 at Mount
Maunganui during the weekend.
This performance gave him the individual honours in the Grant
Clements Memorial trophy event and his second win on the Mt
Maunganui course.
Pikari, the Waikato No 1, finished one shot ahead of Fraser
MacLachlan (Royal Wellington), the grandson of the late Don
MacLachlan, a former rector of Otago Boys' High School.
Ryan Chisnall (Nelson) had been picked as a player of the
future when he rocketed on to the scene as a 15-year-old five
years ago but had to be content with a share of third on 281.
Brent McEwan performed better of Otago's two representatives,
finishing tied for 15th with rounds of 73, 75, 72 and 70.
Otago's other team member, Michael Smith posted round of 78,
78, 73 and 72 to finish on 301.
Auckland won the team event while the Otago pair came in
seventh of the 15 teams.
The next outing for Otago's top players will be the South
Island championship which will be played in conjunction with
the Dunedin 72-hole event at St Clair next weekend.
