Golf: Ko leads Australian Open

New Zealander Lydia Ko has broken the course record in taking the clubhouse lead at the Australian women's golf Open in Canberra.

The world's top-ranked amateur sits at 10-under-par after 18 holes - smashing the previous record which stood at seven under - and leads second-placed Mariajo Uribe of Colombia by one shot.

The 15-year-old, who won the New Zealand Open last week, started with a bogey on the 10th hole before recording four straight birdies and an eagle. She then hit a second bogey before a birdie-birdie finish to her first nine holes.

On the front nine Ko shot a par on the 1st, then three straight birdies, before finishing with a par, birdie, par, bogey, birdie.

The shot of the day was on the 15th hole, where she eagled the par 5 with a wedge shot from 75m out on the fairway.

World number one Yani Tseng, who is playing in Ko's group, sits at five under.
