After losing out in the final round last year, the Balmacewen clubs made a good start to the metropolitan men's series in Dunedin yesterday.
Despite being down on playing power, Otago Blue beat Taieri 5-1 while the club's B team downed Chisholm Park 4-2 playing at home.
With the New Zealand amateur under way, Otago Blue was without the services of Nick Borren and Brandon Hodgson but posted a win against Taieri.
Taieri has rejoined the men's series after an after an absence of three years but failed to measure up against a strong Balmacewen sextet.
Otago Gold squeaked home against Chisholm Park with Conor Jamison (No 1) and Sean Geary (No 3) posting wins for the Park team.
