Otago Blue thumped the Gold team 5-1 at Balmacewen on Saturday to take a clear lead in this year's metropolitan senior A pennant series after two rounds.

Otago Blue has the maximum six points and a 10-game tally, to be three points and six games ahead of St Clair, which has a game in hand.

The top four fired for the Blue team as Nick Borren, Jamie Anstiss, Brandon Hodgson and Daniel Elder were all 3-under-par when they finished their matches.

Borren beat Cameron Ryder 5 and 4 while Anstiss finished his match a hole earlier at the expense of Dylan Stock.

Elder also won by an impressive margin while Hodgson turned 1-down to veteran campaigner Murray Edgar.

Hodgson birdied four in a row, starting at the ninth, to turn the tables but still struggled before beating Edgar on the final green.

Chris Timms turned his attention from the Genesis share float to post the Gold team's only win, at the expense of former Oamaru golfer Luke Murdoch.

Meanwhile, St Clair beat Chisholm Park on the links course 4-2 but it was close, with four of the matches finishing on the final green.

Chisholm Park dominated the top two matches as Conor Jamison beat Greg Johnson and Mark Collie posted a 5 and 3 win over St Clair No 2 Chris Snow.

But the remaining four matches went St Clair's way with Tony Giles and Stephen Hitchcox beating Sean and Kyle Geary respectively.

A rare injection of youth into the St Clair line-up resulted in 14-year-old Jacob Bleach making a successful debut at No 5, beating Cody McMullan with one hole to spare.
