James Anstiss (Otago) finished with rounds of 74 at The Hills and 71 at Millbrook during the weekend to finish first by a substantial margin in the Otago junior order of merit competition, which has been running over the past year.

However, the weekend honours went to Cromwell's Inia Logan, who scored 72 on each course for a total of 144.

The duo were part of a group of 12 boys and three girls who competed in the event's finale, playing with Greg Turner, Alan Rose, Mahal Pearce, Vaughan McCall and Michael Smith.

Logan's performance lifted him from sixth to second, while Conor Jamison (Chisholm Park), Ryan Bellamy (Port Chalmers) and Ryan Shuttleworth (Wanaka) filled the next three places.

Anstiss (19) made his debut in the Otago men's team in the Toro tournament on the North Shore last December and has gone from strength to strength this year.

He won the Central Otago championship two weeks ago and the Otago age group title last week, setting two course records in the process.

Logan (15) has also been in great form with a course record of 59 in Roxburgh as well as a good win this weekend.

Anstiss receives $959 and Logan $800 from a pool of $3400 and that money can be spent on travel, coaching or equipment.
