Golf: Alker and Wilkinson steady in Georgia

Kiwi golfers Steven Alker and Tim Wilkinson carded tidy opening rounds of 69 during the first day of The McGladrey Classic in Georgia on the PGA Tour.

Their one-under totals left them in a share of 48th today (fri) and fellow Kiwi Danny Lee was set to join them with a similar score before a disastrous eight on the par-four 16th at the Seaside Course on Sea Island saw him slip towards a five-over 75 and a share of 126th place.

Lee will need a stellar second round tomorrow to make the cut, while Alker and Wilkinson will need more of the same.

There's a four-way tie at the top of the leaderboard with Americans Brian Harman, Michael Thompson, Erik Compton and Will MacKenzie all at five-under.
