Golf: Clean sweep for town

Metropolitan made it a clean sweep at the inter subassociation match at the weekend, winning both the senior and masters (over 40) sections over three rounds on the Roxburgh course.

In the senior event, the town golfers won all three matches with a total of 13.5 games and the Dunedin masters golfers also won the three matches with a 9.5 game tally.

For the town team, Daniel Elder had three good wins at No 2 showing he will be a keen contender for Otago teams in the near future.

At the tail of the team, Conor Jamison and Harry Smith showed good form winning all three games after returning from the South Island under 19 event in Christchurch .

No 4 Brandon Hodgson emerged unbeaten with two wins and a half while No 3 Ryan Bellamy had one win and a half.

Bellamy set the course alight on Saturday afternoon giving South Otago's Mark Sheppard little chance to compete.

Bellamy was 6 under par when the match finished on the 13th green and finished with an impressive 62 on the par 68 course.

No 1 Brent McEwan had a rare bad event, emerging with a single half from his three matches.

He was beaten by South Otago youngster Mathew Crawford and Central's Scott Hansen, who is a former Southland representative.

Hansen is playing at Kelvin Heights and has made himself available for Otago teams later in the year.

North Otago No 1 Kris Rush North Otago emerged unbeaten with two wins and a half while Central No 3 Ryan Shuttleworth was the only non town golfer to win all of his matches.
