Golf: Father and son to contest final

When  father and son Duane and Jaxon (15) Boyes go to golf on Saturday, there will be more at stake than the usual day's competition.

Both have made it through to the final of the Taieri Lakes Golf Club Junior B Matchplay Club Championships.

Club captain Ken Shaw said in the 40 years he had been a club member, he could not remember a father and son competing against each other in the final.

He expected the 18-hole final to be closely contested, with Jaxon, who had dropped from a handicap of 35 to 25 in the past few months, having the edge on his father.

The other finalists in the club champs, playing a 36-hole final, are Brian Shaw and Mark Andrews vying for the senior title; James Mullan and Kurt Laurie in Intermediate A, Richard Will and Graham McPhee in Intermediate B and Antony Murphy and Brian Bennett in Junior A.
