Duncan Croudis (Otago) and Abigael Crawford (St Clair) emerged as the winners of the Chisholm Links Open, which was played over 36 holes in wet conditions on the linksland course yesterday.
However, both players achieved their respective titles in different ways with Croudis taking his title on the second hole of a playoff while Crawford led from start to finish, eventually winning by a five shot margin over Tracey Storer (Belleknowes).
Daniel Elder (Otago) set the early pace, leading by three at lunch after shooting a two under par 69 in the morning round.
Elder was three shots clear of Brandon Hodgson (Otago) and Andrew Hobbs (Island Park), while Stephen Waby (North Otago) and Croudis were one further shot back on 73.
Elder lost the initiative on the front nine in the afternoon, carding three double bogies on the outward nine but tidied his round with three birdies coming home.
Croudis, Elder and Hodgson were all tied on the final tee with Elder first to finish with a par 4.
Croudis dropped a good birdie putt for a birdie three while Hodgson made an easy birdie after driving on to the green.
This put Croudis and Hodgson into a sudden death playoff with both players making birdies to tie the first hole.
