An unlucky golf fan was hit in the face by a wayward drive by Australian golfer Steven Bowditch during the Masters at Huntingdale golf club in Melbourne yesterday.

Bowditch teed off on the par four 11th hole but sent the ball into a wooded section of the course where it struck the fan directly in the face, reportedly breaking his nose.

The incident was seen by television commentators, with one remarking: "That is unfortunate."

His commentary partner agreed, saying: "Poor bugger."

The injured spectator was later seen chatting to Bowditch and Masters officials.
