A record number of gymnasts lined up for the Otago
rhythmic gymnastics championships over the weekend.
The championships at the Caledonian Gymnasium attracted more
than 120 gymnasts from Otago and Canterbury clubs.
There were 15 grades contested.
In the top grade, Keziah Oliver, from Christchurch, won ahead
of her provincial team-mate Mereana Rademakers.
Both of these gymnasts are trying to qualify for the
Commonwealth Games later in the year, and used the
championships as a good training exercise.
Otago gymnasts to the fore were Dale Hurring, who won the
level eight grade, while Brooke Hannah finished second in the
level seven grade.
Brooke Hastie was second in the level 10 grade, performing
all her routines solidly.
Dunedin youngsters Sarah Morrison and Mikaela Walsh both
performed well against some top competition in the level
seven grade.
The duo are off to Australia next month to compete at the
Australian rhythmic gymnastics championships.
