According to several internet sources, 50% of workers are late to work on Monday.

Once people make it to work, it takes them on average 12min before they start complaining and they do not bust out a smile until about 11.15am.

St Hilda's Collegiate School cannot afford anything resembling Mondayitis.

The school is aiming to make the quarterfinals of the Federation Cup and must perform well on the opening day of the elite girls secondary school tournament.

It opens its campaign against New Plymouth Girls' High School in the morning and plays Bethlehem College that evening.

Anything less than two wins could spell the end of St Hilda's quarterfinal prospects, co-coach Anna Bruce said.

''We are aiming to make the top eight and anything better than that we'd be absolutely stoked with,'' she said.

There are 16 teams contesting the tournament and they split into four pools of four.

The top two teams from each pool progress to the quarterfinals.

St Hilda's other pool B opponent is the powerful Auckland Diocesan, which it plays on Tuesday.

Bruce is hoping her side has booked a quarterfinal spot by then.

''We are pretty confident we will hopefully finish in the top two of that pool, so that will mean winning our first two games on that first day.''

Should the home team make it through, there are some quality teams waiting.

''St Margaret's, who won last year, are always a hot favourite and any of the Christchurch schools are known to be quite strong such as Villa Maria, Rangi Ruru and Christchurch Girls' High.

''They all have pretty strong teams. But also the teams like Auckland Diocesan, who finished up second last year, and St Cuthbert's from Auckland as well will all be top contenders.''

St Hilda's will look to its classy midfield to assert pressure on its opponents.

Otago cricket representative Polly Inglis will link up with her co-captain Mallory Cooper and Annabel Girvan in the centre of the park.

Inglis' brother is Black Sticks striker Hugo Inglis and she has his talent for scoring goals.

Girvan is a busy but calm player who will keep running the entire game, while Cooper is dependable and a good communicator.

Fourteen-year-old Jessica Faulks leads a young defensive line-up, while Philippa Dingle will seek to use her pace up front to provide some strike power.

Libby Morris was recently named Otago under-18 goalie of the year and is a good shot-stopper.

''We do have a little bit of inexperience in defence but we're managing to step up game after game and those young players have shown they can hold their own under pressure.''
