Hockey: Kings attack keeps KETOB on back foot

United A had a dominant 9-0 win over KETOB A in the men's premier club game on Saturday.

Kings United wasted no time getting on the scoreboard when Mitchell Carey converted a penalty corner in the first five minutes, and Aaron Fahey did the same moments later.

Thirty minutes into the game, KETOB had yet to take the ball into the circle, as it was too busy playing defence.

Despite a seemingly constant assault on goal by Kings, KETOB goalie Grant Bracey Brown provided some serious damage control, keeping Kings from inflating the lead too much.

But Brown could not stop every ball from getting past and Kings marched ahead 4 0 at halftime after goals from Nick Cantwell and Andrew Kennedy.

After the break, Aaron Farrell scored for Kings after a seamless play was set up by his team mates in the circle.

Moments later, KETOB was taken down a peg again as Jens Moller was taken off the field after getting a green card.

Kennedy scored his second goal for Kings after a neat shot was powered right into the corner of the net. As the game dragged on, KETOB appeared fatigued as Kings raked in three more goals from Carey, Dan Brasting and Rory McLean.

KETOB gave Kings opportunities to extend the score but Kings did not take advantage.

There were no other men's premier games at the weekend. Two other games (Albany Alligators v University Black Panthers and Taieri Tuataras v University Blue Whales) were deferred due to the national under 21 tournament.
