Hockey: Kings United takes advantage of Taieri Tuataras' lapses

Kings United A reigned supreme over the Taieri Tuataras in the premier men's competition on Saturday, winning 4-1.

The game started slowly with 20 minutes of back and forth between the sides before Kings' Dan Brasting converted a penalty corner.

Kings kept the momentum going with two more penalty corners, converting one through Lawson Davison.

Aaron Fahey looked as though he would make it three goals in under five minutes but Taieri scooped it out at the last second.

Taieri could not find its rhythm and was a man short just before halftime, after getting a green card.

After the break, things started looking up for the Tuataras, as James Savage got them on the scoreboard but the goal was tarnished seconds later, when Andrew Beverland was taken off after being green carded.

Kings capitalised on this advantage when Fahey slid the ball past the Taieri defence, including goalie Hayden Himburg, who seemed more focused on instructing his team mates than stopping the ball.

Taieri had a string of penalty corners but it just could not work them into goals.

Kings made a last push and Campbell Paton converted a penalty corner.

In the other men's premier games, the University Blue Whales beat the University Black Panthers 1-0, and the Albany Alligators thumped KETOB A 10-1.
