Dunedin Thunder forward Paris Heyd has guided the New Zealand men to a perfect start at a world championship event in South Africa.

The Ice Blacks have posted wins against Mexico (5-3) and Israel (6-3) at the world division two, group B championships.

Heyd has three goals and an assist so far at the tournament.

In the opening game, he scored New Zealand's second and final goals in the win over Mexico.

Dunedin defenceman Mitch Frear also found the net as the Ice Blacks rebounded from conceding the opening goal to lead 2-1 at the end of the first period and 4-2 after the second.

West Auckland Admirals forward Nicholas Henderson and Botany Swarm forward Jordan Challis scored the other goals.

Yesterday, the Ice Blacks again conceded an early goal, when they were short-handed, but Henderson scored to make it 1-1 at the first break.

Henderson added a second goal - he would also contribute a pair of assists - and Heyd and Swarm forward Joshua Hay scored to help the Ice Blacks lead 4-2 after two periods.

Jeremy Chai (Admirals) and Andrew Cox (Perth Thunder) scored in the final period, with Israel grabbing a consolation goal.

The Ice Blacks now get a rest day before facing China.
