League: Record Origin loss still hurts Blues

NSW's record State of Origin humiliation is in the mind of every Blues player as they prepare for the 2016 NRL season.

Queensland's record 52-6 thumping in the series decider in July delivered the interstate crown back to the Maroons in the most emphatic of ways and signalled their champion team is far from done with yet.

The 2016 series opener is set down for June 1 at ANZ Stadium, and it is a date Blues prop Aaron Woods concedes will be circled in the calendar by every NSW player involved in the Suncorp Stadium massacre.

"It does hurt when you think about it because you look back to the last game and you got beaten by 50," Woods told AAP.

"Hopefully I am still playing good footy this year and will get back in that squad with (coach) Laurie (Daley). I definitely would love to have another crack at them.

"If we do get back into camp and it is a similar squad the boys will be dying to get out there on that Wednesday night.

"There are two games at ANZ this year and the boys will be that pumped to do it in front of their own crowd."

Despite the record thumping the Blues have a fair chance of becoming Origin champions again given there are two matches in Sydney as there were in 2014 when they broke the Maroons' eight-year stranglehold on the interstate series.

Origin II will be played at Suncorp Stadium on June 22, with game three back in Sydney on July 13.
