The thrill of the chase and going fast is what keeps Sacha Coghill on the racetrack.

The 19-year-old, who has just started racing, has spent most of her life at a racetrack and a lot of time around cars.

''I'm catching up on dad's [Paul Coghill's] lap times pretty quickly. I want to get faster and faster, that's my aim. I love going fast.

"I've always been around racing and interested in cars. It's the thrill of going fast. I have little experience at the moment but it's good fun. I just enjoy driving on the race track,'' she said.

Coghill will race her Honda Civic Type R in the Highlands Fling sprint as part of the Highlands Festival of Speed on April 19 and 20. It will be a new experience for Coghill, who has never driven the car on a racetrack.

''It will be a good experience. I love driving the car on the road so I am interested to see how it will go on the racetrack. I am really looking forward to it. I want to get a decent time and not crash the car,'' she said.

Breaking her sternum after crashing a 1968 Triumph Vitesse into a bank at a Teretonga race meet in Invercargill in February did not stop her from getting back behind the wheel.

''The car came off a lot worse than I did. That happened on the last day so I'd had five races before hand. That's getting fixed,'' she said.

One of Coghill's future aims is to ''get up with the boys''.

''I want to get faster and be on the same level competing with them,'' she said.

Coghill will co-drive with her father, Paul, in the South Island Targa later this year in the Vitesse.

It is the 20th anniversary of the event that Paul completed 20 years ago in the same car.

''You don't know where you are going, you just follow the instructions and see what happens. It should be interesting,'' she said.
