Otago drivers popped up all over the class podiums in the 1+01 (one-hour-plus-one-lap) mini-enduro at Highlands Motorsport Park on Sunday.

Queenstown's Grant Aitken finished third in his recently-acquired Porsche 997 Cup car, which he said ''went like a clock''.

Although drivers could elect to have a co-driver, he completed the race solo, also earning third place in the GT class.

Overall and GT class winner Christchurch's Paul Kelly shared the wheel with professional Auckland driver Daniel Gaunt to take victory in a Porsche 997 Cup ahead of Aucklanders Gerald Trass and Jono Lester in a Ferrari 458.

Dunedin's Chris Henderson won class 1 and roared home fifth overall in his plucky, LS3 V8-engined Toyota Corolla AE86.

He was pleased with its performance as the only non-GT car in the top five and credited its success to his team.

''It's the work behind the scenes that finishes you on the day,'' Henderson said.

Gary Ponting, of Wanaka, and Queenstown's Barry Moore were 10th, won class 3 in their 2-litre Honda EF Civic and set a class lap record of 1min 51.724sec.

''It was nice to go away with that in the records,'' Ponting said.

In one of his first forays into endurance racing, Cromwell's Paul Beattie finished 12 overall and third in class 2 driving a Mitsubishi Evo 9.

One spot overall behind Beattie was John Waldron, of Alexandra, who dedicated his class 1 second place to wife Stacey and his children, for putting up with him heading away racing so much, he said, with a smile.

Over in the Australian GT (AGT) championship, young Australian racer Richard Muscat took two race wins to secure his first AGT title on Saturday.

Muscat, who pilots the Erebus Motorsport GT Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, had to fend off a determined challenge from Highlands owner Tony Quinn and Australian V8 Supercar star Garth Tander to take the win.

The victory would have been a consolation to Muscat, who ran out of fuel with the finish line in sight, while leading the Highlands 101 endurance race on Sunday.
