Two Otago riders claimed titles at the New Zealand veterans' and women's championships at the weekend.

As expected, Courtney Duncan swept all races in the senior women's category to emphasis her status as the finest female motocross rider in the country.

Duncan, from Palmerston, finished with the maximum 125 points, beating Sarah Elwin (110) and Caitlin Ryan (100).

The other Otago champion was Queenstown rider Scott Columb, who has ''veteran'' status despite having captained New Zealand at the Motocross of Nations just a few months ago.

Columb won the 30-35 years over-201cc two-stroke and over-301cc four-stroke class, finishing on 116 points, seven clear of Darren Paterson.

Winton rider Martin Axtens dominated the 40-44 years overs class with four wins and one runner-up finish.

Headline act Josh Coppins, the former world No 2, did not disappoint in his debut appearance at the event.

He had five straight wins in the 35-39 years class, and also won the all-in feature race.

The event was held near Southbridge, a small town about half an hour south of Christchurch best known as the home of All Black first five-eighth Dan Carter.
