Motorcycle endurance racing requires a lot of ''thinking and strategy' to make it through a day of competition, Stephen White says.

White, who has been competing in the sport for 22 years, will contest the 2015 KTM New Zealand Enduro Series round five in the expert/veteran category on Monday, April 6, at Berwick Forest.

''It's another discipline that requires a lot of thinking and strategy to get you through to the end of the day. It's about being smart enough to conserve your energy and riding consistently,'' he said.

The seven-round national series is expected to attract 70 to 100 riders who will take part in three stages.

The event is also part of the South Island Enduro Series.

Stage one is 50km; stage two is about 30km and the distance for stage three is yet to be confirmed.

There will also be special tests, White said.

He is looking forward to the challenges that Berwick Forest will present.

''It will be a challenge. It is physically demanding ... riding up and down hills and over tree roots. You slowly get worn out. It will be a long day. Berwick throws up its own set of challenges ... especially if it rains. Every second counts. Speeds average between 15kmh and 24kmh,'' he said.

National and international riders, including defending champion Chris Birch, will also compete in the event.

Round four will be held in Christchurch on Saturday.

''We are lucky to have been given two out of seven rounds in the South Island. We wouldn't have been able to have held this event here without the help of the Mosgiel District Motorcycle Club,'' he said.

White is aiming for a top-10 finish in the expert/veterans class on his KTM 250 XC-F.

White's son, Tom (16), will also take part in both events in the Intermediate Unders Class.

• Racing starts at 10am and will finish between 3pm and 4pm. For more information visit www.silverbullet.co.nz.
