Netball: Revamp for Steel member packages

Netball South is revamping the Steel's membership packages in an attempt to bolster crowd numbers next year.

The franchise's new VIP package will feature a raft of benefits, including exclusive experiences with Steel players and a free game for all junior members.

It is the first initiative in a strategy to boost crowd numbers, and Netball South chief executive Lana Winders said planning was well under way to ''supercharge'' the team's home games.

The Southern franchise sold 1150 memberships last season, more than any of the other New Zealand franchises, but Winders said changes had to be made to stay ahead.

''While we continue to enjoy the largest membership base of all New Zealand's netball franchises, we can't rest on our laurels,'' she said.

''We need to continue to grow and deliver a fantastic experience to our most loyal fans.

''It's such a thrill to bring international sporting fixtures to our region, but that understandably comes with a level of expectation we need to meet. So looking at innovative ways to enhance our events has definitely been a priority during the off-season.''

Existing members can renew their seat from today until December 3. Public sales will start on December 14.

The ANZ Championship will run from April to July, with the Steel hosting seven round-robin games - five in Invercargill and two at the Edgar Centre in Dunedin.

Six of the Steel's home games will be followed by Netball South games in the newly formed national league, which will run in conjunction with the transtasman competition.
