Netball: Phys Ed A seals it in final quarter

Phys Ed A beat College A 55-43 in an exciting premier A grade game at the Edgar Centre last night.

Both teams had great moments throughout the game but were guilty of throwing the ball away and it was only in the final minutes of the game Phys Ed really secured the win.

Southern Steel players Abby Erwood and Jamie Hume took to the court for Phys Ed and College respectively.

Phys Ed had a two-goal lead early in the game but College eventually levelled the scores midway through the quarter.

College shooters Kiana Pelasio and Isabella Masani had a nice partnership in the shooting circle and secured their team a two-goal lead.

Phys Ed wing defence Laura Moffatt secured an intercept and gave her team a chance to come back but College defender Dani Gray regained possession.

A loose pass by Phys Ed allowed College to extend its lead to four goals, which became six by the end of the quarter.

Hume took to the court at goal shoot at the start of the second quarter and then moved to wing attack for the remainder of the game.

Phys Ed scored two quick goals after it secured a turnover in the College shooting circle and pegged the deficit back to four.

It worked hard throughout court and eventually evened the scores thanks to turnovers in the defence end.

By halftime, Phys Ed had levelled the score from six goals down.

The sides scored evenly for the majority of the third quarter until Gray grabbed an intercept and her team took a two-goal lead.

Phys Ed eventually capitalised on a missed shot by College after the ball was sent back and forth down court and had a two-goal lead heading into the final quarter.

The lead grew to four goals in the final quarter thanks to Sophie Johns who was at her shooting best.

College was tight on defence in the midcourt and made it hard for Phys Ed to get the ball into the circle.

Erwood was impressive on defence and helped Phys Ed extend its lead to six goals.

It added two more after capitalising on a loose pass by College, despite the tough competition from Gray and fellow College defender Demi Forshaw.

Mesani and Pelasio continued to shoot well for their team but were unable to pull back the growing deficit.

The score blew out in the final minutes of the game and Phys Ed won by 12 goals.
