Laura Geitz is keeping her Queensland Firebirds teammates and everyone else guessing as to whether her glittering career will continue past Sunday's trans-Tasman grand final.

But Firebirds centre Gabi Simpson hopes the 28-year-old plays on so she can lead the franchise into netball's bold new eight-team Australian competition which launches next year.

"I have no idea [what she'll do]," Simpson told AAP.

"We're all very secretive people.

"I'd love her to play on for another 10 years to be honest, but when life comes calling, you've got to do what you've got to do.

"We have a very special group of people here, we have amazing leaders. We want to make the most of what we have right now."

Geitz, one of only three players to have featured in Queensland's two trans-Tasman title wins to date, said on Thursday she is undecided on her future and that the result of Sunday's decider against the NSW Swifts could sway her.

"I'm still open to playing on but I haven't made any firm decisions," she wrote in a column for News Corp.

"I'll wait and see what Sunday brings and that might determine what happens."

The Firebirds can finish the trans-Tasman era as the competition's most successful franchise if they can claim their third title on Sunday.

The Adelaide Thunderbirds and Melbourne Vixens are the only other teams to have won two grand finals.

"We're approaching this game like any other game - but these things are on our mind," Simpson said.

"We really would like to be able to step up and make history, like any team would.

"We've got a lot of things motivating us but I guess that's just an extra one."
