The NSW Swifts got off to a flying start in a Trans-Tasman netball pre-season tournament in Queenstown today with two wins.

Swifts, who won last year's inaugural Trans-Tasman championship, downed New Zealand side Southern Steel 68-49 and followed that up with a 51-47 win over the Australian Institute of Sport.

In other matches today, Wellington's Pulse lost 44-51 to the AIS and Steel lost a second time to Auckland-based Northern Mystics 47-57.

The Steel today welcomed back former internationals Adine Wilson and Donna Wilkins to competition after both took time out to have babies.

Shooter Wilkins nailed 19 of 21 shots in the first half against the Swifts despite the formidable presence defender Rebecca Bulley while Wilson showed glimpses of her former class in the midcourt.

Against the Mystics team, Steel vice-captain Wendy Telfer had a solid outing in midcourt, while youngster Julianna Naoupu proved unshakable under the post.

However, Mystics, powered by midcourt dynamo Temepara George and shooter Catherine Latu, capitalised on Steel errors to come off with their win.

A youthful AIS side came back from a 20-23 halftime deficit to beat Central Pulse before going down to the swifts despite leading for the majority of the game.

Results from the trans-Tasman netball pre-season tournament in Queenstown today:
NSW Swifts 68, Southern Steel 49 Australian Institute of Sport 51, Central Pulse 44, Swifts 51 AIS 47, Northern Mystics 57, Steel 47
