Rowing: NZ to replace banned Russian crew at Rio

The New Zealand rowing men's quadruple sculls crew will replace Russia at the Rio Olympics, reports say.

The Russian crew was banned from the Games after one of the members failed a doping test in May, the sport's governing body FISA said.

Sergej Fedorovtsev tested positive for trimetazidine in an out-of-competition urine test conducted by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency on May 17, FISA said. Both his 'A' and 'B' samples tested positive for the substance, which is a banned metabolic modulator.

Russia had won the 'last chance' qualifying regatta in Lucerne, at which New Zealand finished third.
