Central Otago

Queenstown and Dunstan scored two wins each in the second round of the Vincent Cricket Association's twenty/20 competition on Saturday.

Queenstown started the day with an eight-wicket win over Albion in Alexandra.

Albion batted first and made a testing 113 for five from its 20 overs, Ryan Wheeler top-scoring with 31.

Cameron Fawkner was the best of the Queenstown bowlers, taking two for 20.

Queenstown chased down the total with four overs to spare, opener Fraser Wilson making an impressive 61 not out and Kyle Paterson chipping in with 37 off 38 balls.

Best of the Albion bowlers was Tim Cotter with one for 24.

In the second game of the morning, Dunstan easily defeated Clyde in Clyde.

Jaydan Attfield tore through the Cromwell batting order to help dismiss it for 46. Five Cromwell batsmen made ducks.

Attfield produced a fine spell of bowling, taking four for 10 off his four overs.

Dunstan easily reached the target and won by seven wickets with 12 overs to spare.

Top-scorers for Dunstan were Bryce Smith (12) and Nathan Hawker, with 10 not out.

Dunstan backed that win up in the afternoon with a thrilling one-wicket win over Black Hill.

Black Hill batted first and posted a modest 88 for nine, with Dave Lilly top-scoring with 20 and Kieran Eathorn scoring 14.

Attfield was once again the chief destroyer taking three for five from his four overs.

In reply Dunstan looked to be coasting to victory at 67 for three, but a middle-order batting collapse saw it 82 for nine, needing seven runs from the final over.

It got there with one ball to spare.

Sasha Hill top-scored with 20 and Kyle Spence made 15.

Black Hill bowlers Rusty Neville and Dave Lilly showed plenty of fight.

Neville took four for 11 from his four overs and Lilly chimed in with three for 17 to cap off a fine all-round effort.

Queenstown recorded its second win of day with an easy 70-run win over Cromwell in Alexandra.

Batting first, Queenstown made 175, Kyle Paterson top-scoring with 75 and Cameron Fawkner making 68.

Paterson's effort came at a cost and he retired hurt with a broken toe.

The best of the bowlers for Cromwell was Mark Knox, with two for 40.

Cromwell was never in the hunt, and could only manage 105 for nine from its 20 overs.

Mark Knox top-scored with 37.

The two wins for Dunstan were of particular significance because it had four points deducted after defaulting to Queenstown last week.

• Bowls
In the fifth round of the pennant ECNZ Trophy played last week, Millers Flat, Alexandra Black, RSA 2, Alexandra Brown and Alexandra Silver gained the maximum three wins.

For Millers Flat and Alexandra Brown, it was the second week in a row they had achieved this feat.

Clyde 1, Alexandra Blue, RSA 3 and Roxburgh all recorded two wins.

At the other end of the ledger, Clyde 2, RSA 1, RSA 4, Clyde 3 and Alexandra Green all failed to gain a win.

The leaderboard has Alexandra Brown on top with 24 points. Millers Flat is two points behind and Alexandra silver trails by three, with Roxburgh on 20 points.

South Otago

After steady rain on Friday night, all cricket in South Otago was cancelled due to ground conditions.This games will now be played on December 1.

Another round in the Men's Midweek competition was played last Thursday, with unbeaten leader Finegand recording its first loss of the season. Of the five games played, there were two comfortable wins, one close win and two draws.

Biggest win of the day went to Kaka Point Seals, which defeated SOTC by 24-12.

In the local derby, Balclutha White beat Balclutha Red 24-16.

In the games of the day, Kaka Point Orcas were too good for Finegand, winning 21-14.

In other games, Stirling and Clinton drew 15-all, while Owaka and Waihola drew 20-all.

Men's Interclub was played on Saturday, in cold, showery conditions.

Balclutha scored an 8-4 win over Waihola.

For Clutha, Tony Cook scored two wins, while Gareth Thomson and Bill Barron had one win each. Barron's win was outstanding. He and Peter Brown won their pairs game 20-5. Barron, who holds the Bowls South Otago record with 41 centre titles, continues to play well, despite being in his 90s.

The best for Waihola came from John Moana and Roger Coote with one win each.

Kaka Point scored a close win over Milton Blue, winning by 7-5.For the winners, Neville Murdoch had two wins, Graeme Thomas one win and one other game was drawn. Best For Milton Blue came from Phil Hunter and Dave Robinson with one win each, plus a draw.

Finegand held off Milton Gold to win by 8-4. Dave Roxburgh had two wins, with Jack Harrold and Charlie Wyndham scoring one win each. For Milton, Max Taylor scored two wins.

SOTC beat Owaka 8-4. For Town and Country, Bruce Campbell narrowly won his pairs game from Murray Patterson 13-12 and went on to skip his four to a 11-7 victory. Barrie Keach and Greg Keach had one win each.

North Otago

The second round of the Borton Cup became an exercise in frustration and futility as periodic rain produced a stop-start programme of games before heavy rain wiped out what was left of the afternoon.

Oamaru won the toss and batted first against Union at St Kevin's College all-weather pitch and made 126 before the final wicket fell, with Gary Mahuika top-scoring with 73.

Duncan Drew took five for 27 off his 10 overs and Glynn Cameron, two for 16. Union, attempting to get through to the 15-over mark to make a game of it and bring the final decision down to run rate, was 42/2 after 11 overs when play was abandoned.

Waitaki Boys' won the toss and asked Albion to bat first.

Albion made 232 for 10 before the final wicket fell in the 48th over. Marshall Smith top-scored with 65, while further up the order Brad Kernahan (39) and Peter Cartwright (28) were the pick of the rest. Stephan Grobler took six for 29 off his 10 overs.

Rain denied Albion a chance to bat.

St Kevin's won the toss and batted first against Valley on the College's No1 pitch and batted through its 50 overs to be 127 for nine, with Tim O'Malley (21) and Tim McCormick (20) the best of the batsmen. Hamish McKenzie took three for 21 and Geoff Mavor two for 17 before the weather had its way.
