Olympian Sarah Walker will hold a coaching session for
girls in Dunedin later this month.
Walker, who won a silver medal at the London Olympics, is
coming south for the special BMX and cycling weekend at
Forrester Park on February 23-24.
''We are lucky to have Sarah back in the city again to coach
24 girls between the ages of 6 and 16 who are interested in
BMX,'' Dunedin BMX Club president Jason Wadsworth said.
Walker will be joined in Dunedin by Malcolm McConie, a former
New Zealand BMX team coach. He has the technical expertise
that is needed to excel in the sport.
McConie will hold coaching sessions for boys interested in
the sport. He will be holding a bike skills session for
riders.
The programme on the Saturday is geared for BMX riders only,
but on the Sunday they will be joined by mountain bikers and
cyclists in a programme backed by the Dunedin City Council,
Sport Otago and Mountain Bike Otago.
There will be an open BMX race meeting and this will be
followed by coaching sessions.
''They will be running bike skills programmes for members of
the public to come along and have a go,'' Wadsworth said.
Girls interested in attending the coaching course by Sarah
Walker can contact Dunedin BMX by email (dunedinbmx@gmail.com).
