BMX: Walker crashes out of World Champs

Sarah Walker, New Zealand's main hope of collecting a medal at the BMX World Championships, crashed out of contention in Auckland this morning.

The Olympic silver medallist was already hampered by a broken arm when she crashed in practice at Vector Arena, ending her hopes of repeating her 2009 world championship win.

Newstalk ZB reported Walker tumbled to the dirt during a practice run and was forced to leave Vector Arena for X-rays. Before that, though, Walker paid tribute to her fans by rolling around the track in the qualifying motos.

Walker was already nursing a broken arm suffered in a crash in the United States five weeks ago but she said she hasn't reinjured it. But she will be unable to move through to this afternoon's elimination rounds.

Six Kiwi riders were lining up in qualifying motos this morning, with Marc Willers the only New Zealander ranked high enough to progress straight through to this afternoon's elimination races.
