Patearoa's John Thurlow and Naseby's Bill Morice played out the closest match of the latest Maniototo Sub Centre bowls competition on Saturday, Thurlow eventually prevailing 18-15.

Tom Elder (Ranfurly) played one of the most impressive games, beating fellow Ranfurly local Steve Ralston by 11 points, 24-13.

Other winners were Roger Jackson and Ron Hamill (Patearoa), Tony Andrews (Waipiata), Ray Kearney (Ranfurly) and Davy Tisdall (Middlemarch).

The Wanaka Bowling Club's Progressive tournament continued on Friday, with Jim Skeggs, Brian Holmes and Bruce Macandrew winning the top spots in their respective disciplines.

Round two of the Men's interclub bowls competition was played on Saturday, with Balclutha and Stirling remaining unbeaten.

Balclutha travelled to Milton where it outplayed Milton Blue 10-2.

For the winners, Selwyn Anderson scored two wins, as did Noddy Thomson.

Thomson won both of his games, 22-9 and 21-5.

John deMalmanche scored the other win.

Sandy McNoe scored Milton Blue's only victory.

Stirling, with a win over Kaka Point last week, continued on with its good form, beating Clinton 9-3.

Max Collett scored two wins, and John Sutherland a win and a draw.

Best result for Clinton came from triples Geoff Hurst, Dave Mackie and Wayne Reeves, who won a close encounter 10-9.

Milton Gold held out Owaka to win its fixture 8-4 at Owaka.

For Milton, M. Taylor scored a double, while Alan Mead and T. Nicol had single wins.

For Owaka, Tom Dallas and Alex Black had wins.

At Milton, Kaka Point beat Milton White 8-4.

For the Seasiders, John Bisset (2), Ray Hopkins and John Hurst scored wins.

For Milton White, Gerry Wyber had two wins.

Clutha Valley came back with a good 9-3 win over T and C. For Clutha Valley, Ken Rishworth and Ray Crawford had two wins each.

For T and C, David Renton scored the sole win.

T and C, Finegand and Clinton are the only unbeaten teams after two rounds in the mid-week competition.

In the latest round, T and C was too good for Stirling, winning 22-11.

Finegand beat Milton Saints 24-15, while Clinton beat Balclutha White 20-19.

Other winners were Owaka, Waihola and Kaka Point Seals, which had the biggest win of the day, 26-4, over Milton Sinners.

Round one has been completed in the sevens competition.

Kaka Point scored a 4-2 win over Balclutha.

Balclutha's Noddy Thomson showed excellent form, beating Dave Bichan 25-14.

Thomson was in tremendous driving form, taking the kitty out at will.

In the pairs section, Neville Murdoch and John Hurst got away to a 15-4 lead against 91-year-old Bill Barron and Dave Woolland.

Barron began to show his class with some excellent play, and they managed to level the scores at 15-15, before Murdoch and Hurst prevailed.

In other games, Milton No 2 beat Kaitangata 4-2.

Graeme Hyslop scored the win for Kaitangata, Alan Wyber and D. Robinson for Milton.

In a high-scoring game, Milton No 1 beat Lawrence 4-2.

In the fours, Milton, led by Sandy McNoe, outclassed Lawrence 30-8.

Lawrence came back in the pairs with Don Cameron/Peter Ferguson winning their game 30-12.

In the singles, G Hill (Milton) beat Neil Walker (Lawrence) 27-16.

Town and Country scored an upset 6-0 win over Clutha valley.

For T and C, John Savage, Barry Keach and Bruce Campbell all had wins.

Finegand proved too strong for Owaka, winning 6-0.

Ken McIntosh won his singles 25-14 over Lance Ibbotson (Owaka).

Dave Roxburgh and Peter Pomeroy (Finegand) won the pairs 15-14 over Tom Dallas and Murray Paterson.

In the fours, Jack Harrold led the Finegand team to a 24-7 win over an Owaka four, led by Bryan Price.
