Conditions were ideal on Otago Harbour for the first day of the national slalom windsurfing championships yesterday.

With the northeasterly blowing up to 25 knots, and the harbour slightly choppy, competitors had no problems finding wind and air. Competitors raced in 10 heats yesterday, and heats will continue until Sunday, when winners will be found.

Dunedin's Gareth Wood impressed among the men yesterday, while in the women's grade, Annie Crombie, of Christchurch and Sue Bradley, of Queenstown, are fighting it out for the top position.
