Mark Purdon
Trainer Mark Purdon will drive Fly Like An Eagle in the
$600,000 New Zealand Trotting Cup tomorrow week.
Maurice McKendry, the Pukekohe horseman, has been given the
task of driving Auckland Reactor in the group one 3200m
feature.
Fly Like An Eagle, part-owned at East Taieri by Phil and
Margaret Creighton, recorded a strong- finishing run for
third to his Purdon stablemates Sushi Suhsi and Major Mark in
the Kaikoura Cup at his last start six days ago in the hands
of Purdon.
McKendry will travel to the Purdon stables at Rolleston and
drive Auckland Reactor next Sunday in his last workout before
the New Zealand Cup.
McKendry has never driven the 8yr-old entire. He will not
contest the NZ Cup trial at Addignton on Wednesday.
Auckland Reactor tangled at the start and was tailed off in
the Louisson Handicap at Addington on Friday night. He looped
the field to lead at the 1000m but wilted in the run home to
finish last.
Purdon has a record five horses in the NZ Cup.
Sushi Sushi will be driven by Natalie Rasmussen. Major Mark
will be handled by Colin De Filippi and Highview Tommy, a
last-start seventh in the Kaikoura Cup, is the drive of Blair
Orange.
