The skills of driver Ricky May, including his knowledge of
his home track, and the No 1 barrier draw were key factors in
Ellmer Hanover's win in the Green Mile at the Mt Harding
course at Methven yesterday.
Ellmer Hanover took an early lead from the mobile gate but
surrendered it to Sleepy Tripp about midway, with Flyover
also prominent. However, May, sat patiently in behind Sleepy
Tripp and eventually got racing room on the inside in the
straight.
He prevailed by half a neck, with Glencoe VC third. The
favourite, Major Mark, was seventh.
Quality Invasion was an impressive winner of the trotters'
Green Mile, leading for most of the way. He beat Donaldson by
two and a-quarter lengths, with Beat The Monarch third.
Second-favourite Springbank Sam squandered his chances by
breaking in the score-up to the mobile.
