Racing: Kid Galahad to take step up

A new standard in opponents for Kid Galahad at Waimate tomorrow is no cause for concern for driver Ricky May.

The Christian Cullen entire won stylishly in his fresh-up performance at Oamaru on November 24.

May, who has driven Kid Galahad in nine of his 17 starts, had to watch from the sidelines as the 4yr-old won a heat of the invited brothers series, but he is confident of the Laurence Hanrahan-trained pacer fitting in with country cup rivals in the $14,000 Waimate Cup.

''He's stepping up in grade, but I don't think it's going to be any harder.''

May has a busy day tomorrow with 10 drives booked, and opted for another Hanrahan runner, Andrew Ryan (race 1), as probably his best chance. The Continentalman gelding was not far off Tart N Tights at Timaru on Saturday. and has placed before on the grass.

Texican is among Kid Galahad's rivals in the Waimate Cup. The 2011 Sires Stakes winner was disappointing at Invercargill last start, and trainer Cran Dalgety waited until a training run on Thursday before confirming Texican's place in the field.
