LAST SEASON

260 starts, 37 winners, $232,523

Jonny Cox: ''It went pretty well - better than expected. We never really had a target set, but we were lucky to get a few from Canterbury. Midnight Mayhem won a couple, Sharpenuff won three - they all added up and it was a pretty good total in the end. We had horses coming and going all the time. Hopefully, we can carry on this year. We had a lot of new owners; with the ones coming from Canterbury, they were all new owners. Coaster [John Howe] sends a few down, so we're picking up owners all the time. If horses can come down and you can get a win out of them, the owners are happy to come back.

THIS SEASON

''We've got 25 in work - not so many new ones from the last couple of months. We'll see how we go - it's probably not as strong as what we've had but hopefully we can pick up a few to get us going. Mark Jones sends us a few, Coaster and Dave Anderson sent us a couple down - it's just trainers who think their horses are better placed in Southland than chasing the Purdons and Dalgetys around in Canterbury so it definitely helps us out. The one thing we haven't really got is young horses - most of them are more older racehorses. But if there are any owners looking to buy [at the sales], we're happy to have a look.''

DEPARTURES

''Pay Me Quick left on Saturday. She was a great find. Mitchell Robertson did a great job - he paid $3000 for her, got the $2500 bonus first start back and she won that day. Six starts, $12,000, and she sold for $15,000 so he's done pretty well out of her.''

2YR-OLDS TO WATCH

''We've got a 2yr-old trotter [Lilly's Star] out of the same family as Take A Moment for Karl Hansen who owned Lucie De Gerolstein. She's just come back in the last week - she'll probably make a late 2yr-old.''

3YR-OLDS TO WATCH

''I think we've only got one 3yr-old [Jules Manzoni] and he's only jogging up at the moment. He's a half-brother to Sara Holley [by Rocknroll Heaven]. He's a big strong fellow - he'll make a late 3yr-old more than anything.''

4YR-OLDS TO WATCH

''King Louie is in the paddock. Tandy Franco is having a week off. The trip away to Addington got to her a wee bit. She sweated quite badly on the way up and wasn't 100 [percent] on the night. She's come home and is bucking and kicking in the paddock, so she started work again today [Monday].''

TROTTERS TO WATCH

''Jaccka Justy's there, Free Dreams, Idle Eyre's just come back - he looks really good. We have the half to The Fiery Ginga called The Ginga's Sister. She's just turned 4. Ken Barron had her, Phil Williamson's had a go with her and she was a bit of a handful when she came down to us. She'd get out on the beach and have a bit of a buck and a kick and play around a wee bit. She went up to Middlemarch on cavalcades and that sort of carry on and she improved a hell of a lot. She's been back for a week or two - if we can get her going, I think she will be all right.''

HORSE TO FOLLOW

''New Years Jay is obviously one to follow, but other than that, I've always had a bit of time for King Louie. He was a February foal so he's always been a couple of months behind the rest of them, but when he actually clicks on and wakes up to what racing is all about, he'll be the one to follow for next year.''
