Racing: Williams has faith in drive

When a horseman says a race is full of depth, it is generally worth watching.

But Tim Williams hopes his drive, Have Faith In Me, can outsmart his six talented rivals in the $25,000 Sires' Stakes heat at Forbury Park tonight.

''There's depth everywhere you look,'' Williams said.

''It's going to be one of those races where it's going to be interesting to see how it pans out but no-one probably knows until the gate leaves, I think.''

Williams drives the son of Bettor's Delight - a full brother to wonder mare Adore Me - in the 1700m heat tonight, and thinks the lightly-raced pacer might slip under the radar.

''He's one of those horses who didn't race in the big races as a 2yr-old, but the runs he did have were impressive,'' Williams said.

''Especially the first start where he was nearly three wide most of the way and the stablemate that beat it that night [Change Stride], they rate it a bit.''

''They'' are the All Stars stable of Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen, for whom Williams works, and if anyone knows whether an age-grade pacer can step up to the mark, it is Purdon and Rasmussen.

''He's coming in a wee bit under the radar but they definitely have a bit of time for him.

''I drove him at the trials last week and he impressed me. He's a lovely-going sort of horse and he's got great manners.

A lot can happen between now and the Sires' Stakes final on November 11, but Williams would be thrilled if the gelding qualified for the final and he retained the drive.

''It'll just depend on the way things pan out.

''But it would be good if he could qualify for the final - I'd love to drive him. He's definitely right up with those other ones.''

Williams has a good guide on stablemate Alta Ronaldo who has drawn barrier 4, immediately inside of Have Faith In Me.

''He's fit and ready. It's just going to depend on how the race is run. It's his third run now, so he's going to be good enough to make his own luck if he has to.''
