Racing: 'It means a hell of a lot'

The greatest prize in New Zealand trotting is heading south.

Two young Otago trainers and a trotter with precocious speed combined to win the $250,000 Dominion Trot at Addington yesterday.

Jonny Cox (30) and Amber Hoffman (33) prepare Jaccka Justy from their Westwood Beach stables and the 8yr-old produced the run of his life to sprint past the country's best trotters.

The gelding is owned by Charlie and Ailsa Smaill, from Riversdale, near Gore.

''Any Group 1 to anybody is pretty big - especially your first one,'' Cox said.

''It means a hell of a lot.''
