Try not to get caught up in the barrier draws in tonight's heat of the Forbury Park sprint series.

Because history shows that the best horse invariably wins the race - regardless of where the draw places them.

Seven races have been run over 1200m at Forbury Park since last December, and four of the winners have come from the second row.

One of those is Rockin Cullen, who won the first heat of this series earlier this month.

Her driver, Bob Butt, sees no reason why she cannot repeat the winning dose she handed out on November 7 from a very similar draw.

''You think she would be quite hard to beat again,'' Butt said.

''If she gets a run handy enough, she'll be hard to beat again. She went really good last week.''

Butt is happy for the horses on the front line to pour on the speed while he settles back and works out the best horse to latch on to.

''It's just pick and choose which one to follow out,'' he said.

''You're saving a bit of work out of the gate when everyone else is trying to get a possie because it's only one lap.

''I think it's a perfect draw, really. At the end of the day, at worst I couldn't see her being worse than three back.''

Butt has three other strong drives on the first half of the eight-race card, kicking off with Renegade Fighter for Sefton trainer Brent Borcoskie in the c0 trot.

''Brent thought he would be quite hard to beat down there,'' Butt said.

''He's a bit funny early, I think, but if he gets away safely, he should be up there at the finish.''

The horses drawn on the inside in a standing start race can get fractious if forced to stand still while the others come into line, but after 18 attempts, Butt expects the manners to be good.

''He may have to stand there for a little while, but he's had plenty enough practice in the big fields up here, so I couldn't see it being too much of a worry.''

Butt was ''rapt'' with Justa-littlebettor's effort to run second to Mach's Love at Forbury Park on November 7 and the barrier draw should give the mare every chance in race 2.

''She can either lead or trail the two horse [Vincennes]. Irish Kath is going to be hard to beat, but on her last run, I think she's improved a bit, too.

''She usually takes a couple of runs and each run this time in, she's been better and better.''

Butt's third drive will probably also be his smallest of the season. He described Rainbow Hunter (race 3) as ''tiny'' ''John Dunn drove him for me at the workouts here last week when I was down at Forbury,'' he said.

''He thought he would be competitive down at Forbury. I don't do much with him - I just canter him - so it's hard to get a line on him, but Johnny seemed happy enough with him.

''He's best saved for one run - he's not that good but he'll win one somewhere.''
