Racing: Stablemates La Girl, Movida hold appeal

It is not the largest team Steven Anderton will ever take to Wingatui, but Movida and La Girl give him two strong chances for twilight success tonight.

Anderton originally accepted with three runners for tonight's meeting but a wide draw of 17 in a rating 65 1400 for Typhoon convinced him to scratch the 5yr-old.

Instead, he will be represented by La Girl in race 2 and Movida in race 7, and - provided the track stays relatively firm - both look like strong chances.

Until Anderton changed his mind, the pair could have been rivals rather than stablemates.

''I was going to run La Girl in the same race as Movida, but I looked at the other field and thought I'd give her another go at 1200m,'' Anderton said.

La Girl, rated 72, will take on six other horses in a benchmark rating 75, although the presence of Keltic Kitty (rated 77), means La Girl will carry just 56.5kg.

''`She's probably going in with better form that some of the others,'' Anderton said.

''It looks like quite a nice race for her if she gets some of the money.''

The Spartacus mare followed up a win at Gore on October 31 with a fourth behind Crafty Love at Winton on November 28.

''Her race was sound enough the other day. It's a big track here and it can be a bit like a 1400m, so I thought I'd put her in that race.''

Movida will jump out of her grade when she takes on the rating 75 gallopers over 1600m, but Anderton said the distance was the start of a long-term plan for the 6yr-old mare.

''It's a nice big mile here at Wingatui so that will really suit her,'' he said.

''I think she won't be too far away, actually. Of the two, I'd rate Movida a better chance. Blue `N' Gold is the one to beat in that race, I think, and very hard to beat, but it gives me a line on my mare and I might step her up to a bit more ground after that.''

Anderton said the 2000m could suit the daughter of Darci Brahma in time, and would give him more chances to place her over the summer circuit.

''If she can get over a mile and a-quarter there are a few more options for me. She could get through the grades a wee bit better [over 2000m].

''It's hard to get mile [races] down this area anyway.''

Warm weather yesterday ensured the track was rated as good, and Anderton said a firmer surface would certainly suit Movida.

''With La Girl, I'm not really worried about her, but the other mare - being the last race - if they start getting into it a little bit, it probably wouldn't suit her.

''If it got to slow, I wouldn't rate her chances too much.''

Terry Moseley, successful with Movida at Wingatui in October, will take the reins on both horses.

Anderton is aiming Hexie Hao and The Diamond One at the listed open 1200m at Wingatui on Boxing Day, with The Diamond One set to have a trial next week.

The Solitaire has just returned after a brief spell following her ninth in the Canterbury Breeders Stakes last month.

''I'll get her up and see how she comes up and think about a trial in January. She possibly could go into the White Robe [on January 31] fresh.''
