The future looks bright for Querer - but it might not be in the southern 3yr-old classics.

The daughter of Captain Rio took her career record to three wins from four starts when she fought off her six rivals to win the 3yr-old Guineas prelude over 1200m at Wingatui yesterday.

Her first two wins came at Wingatui over 1100m and 1200m before she travelled to Otaki on November 28 and ran second behind Tomorrowland after getting checked.

There were no such traffic problems yesterday though, as apprentice jockey Gosen Jogoo - who has been aboard Querer in all four starts - sent the filly straight to the lead and held off a late bid from Signify.

However, Parsons, whose wife Karen bred the 3yr-old out of the Haafiz mare Querella, suggested Querer probably would not get out to 1600m.

''I don't know if she's going to be able to stretch it over further than 1200m but we'll see what happens,'' he said.

''I suppose we'll have to have a go at the Gore Guineas [over 1335m] - we'd have to give it a crack.''

Querer was the standout of the 3yr-olds but Velocci was arguably even more impressive in the 2yr-old 800m.

The Cecconi gelding went up to the contest the lead by the turn and was a comfortable winner over Ilikai by a length.

Alan Reeves, who races the 2yr-old with Riccarton trainer Sharon Robertson, said Velocci's professional manner had encouraged Robertson to try him as a juvenile prospect.

''From day one, he showed a lot of ability,'' Reeves said.

''He's probably not a [natural] 2yr-old but he gets away with it. He's got a good attitude, which helps too.''

Reeves said the next two days would help decide the team's next move with Velocci.

''There's another [2yr-old race] at Gore in three weeks' time,'' he said.

''We'll see how he does with this long trip back and forth - but he'll make a nice 3yr-old.''
