Racing: Record of 21 years broken

Two track records were set at the Roxburgh Trotting Club's yesterday, including Tas Man Bromac shattering a 21-year-old record by 5sec.

The American Ideal gelding kept the pace on throughout the 2700m journey, setting a mark of 3.24.2 for 3yr-olds from a standing start over the distance, and capping off a good week for trainer Nathan Williamson, who got engaged to Katie Jones on New Year's Day.

Jones and her parents are among the owners of Tas Man Bromac.

Williamson drove Sheeza Shark to victory for Makarewa trainer Austin Stack, while his win in the last race with Kiwi Focus meant he pipped his father, Phil

Williamson, for the leading trainer prize across the Central Otago Trotting Club and Roxburgh Trotting Club meetings.

Davey's Gift also was well inside an old mark when he trotted the 2700m in 3.29.6 - 2.7sec better than Buddsun's 2005 time of 3.32.3 for trotting geldings.

Davey's Gift set a record for allcomers over the 2700m, as the previous best time by a mare was 3.31.4, set by Pyramid Monarch last year.

The only problem for Davey's Gift's trainer, Phil Williamson, was who to cheer for.

He and wife Bev part-own Dwindle Mist, who put in a big effort off her 40m back mark to run second with son Nathan in the sulky.

‘‘I don't know whether to laugh or cry,'' Williamson chuckled.
