Back-to-back success at Wingatui's premier race meeting of the year is on the cards for trainer Steven Anderton.
The Diamond One, who won the group 3 White Robe Lodge Handicap feature race last year, will be one to watch on Champions Day at Wingatui on Saturday.
''We are going for a back-to-back win. It's the race that you want to win every year,'' he said.
Anderton also trains Anzac Star, who will run in the open sprint, and Sofia Loren in a rating 65 1200m race.
Anderton, who has been training horses at Wingatui for 16 years, has the best winning strike rate - winners to starters - for Otago trainers.
''I got it last year. I have had it three times in the last four years. It's not too bad,'' he said.
''It will be nice to see how the other two go fresh-up. Sofia Loren will go really well. Anzac Star has a very good record fresh.
"They don't mind a bit of rain. They have both won on all types [of track surfaces]. We should get a nice track out there which would be good.''
Anderton enjoys the atmosphere of Champions Day.
''You have got good stakes, good horses and good riders.''
