White Robe Lodge trainers Brian and Shane Anderton have regained their spot as the leading trainers at Wingatui and Cromwell.

The Andertons had to bow to Balcairn-based John and Karen Parsons last season, with the husband-and-wife team (13 wins) pipping the Andertons by a solitary win.

But the Andertons were back on top this season with 14 wins at Otago Racing Club meetings at the club's two venues as well as the April 22 meeting, which was transferred to Oamaru.

Include won at both venues - Wingatui on Melbourne Cup day and at Cromwell later this month - but of note is that all other races were won by individual horses from the Andertons' stables.

The Andertons, who win half a tonne of feed from Pryde's Easifeed, aided their cause with multiple wins at the October 23 meeting (Valiant and Ruby's Rose), at the Cromwell meeting on November 30 (Include and Tommy Tucker), on December 10 (Fascinate and Gallant Ruby), on April 9 (Norah and Tedesco) and on April 22 (Forever Vital and News Flash).

John and Karen Parsons set the pace halfway through the season, having recorded nine wins by the end of 2014, including a treble on October 23 and doubles at Cromwell on November 30 and Wingatui on Boxing Day.

The late Steven Anderton recorded six wins during the season, winning twice with Hexie Hao and once each with Movida and Lucille before Landales Gold and The Diamond One provided training victories for the special training partnership of Anderton and his widow, Claire Anderton, on February 6, three days after his death.

Michael and Matthew Pitman secured six wins at Otago Racing Club meetings over the season in their first season as a partnership.

The duo have a two-win lead over the Andertons and the Parsons pair in the South Island trainers' premiership with one meeting to go.

Experience overcame youth in the jockey ranks, with 2000-win jockey Chris Johnson racking up 14 wins at Otago RC meetings this season.

Johnson rode trebles on October 23, November 30 and April 22, and threw in a double on December 10 for the lion's share of his victories to earn himself a $500 Farmlands/CRT voucher.

Terry Moseley kept the flag flying for the elder statesmen, riding nine winners between Wingatui and Cromwell, including his 900th career win aboard To The Max at Cromwell in March.

Shankar Muniandy and Ryan Bishop shared third spot with seven wins each.

Wingatui apprentice Courtney Barnes won the leading apprentice award for the second straight year, collecting 36 points, two ahead of Canterbury's Samantha Wynne.

Rebecca Black was third with 29 points, one ahead of Doni Prastiyou. Barnes gets $150 courtesy of the Otago Apprentice School.
