The Williamson Racing Stables operation at Totara, just south of Oamaru, is off to a flying start this season.

And there is plenty more horsepower to return to the races for Phil Williamson and his staff during the next few months.

Williamson has already had six winners in the first seven weeks of the 2015-16 season from just 25 starts, with three of those wins courtesy of Pyramid Magic.

Williamson is now figuring the right time to look north up State Highway 1 rather than south with the 5yr-old.

''We're tempted to have a wee go in Canterbury,'' he said.

''We feel it might be a bit rich for him but he's certainly marching through the grades in the southern area.

''We might give it a try. He's certainly an improving horse and he's come a long way in a short time.''

Time could be Pyramid Magic's friend, if his breeding is anything to go by.

''He's got time on his side - he's an Armbro Invasion and they take a bit of time. He's really come to it this season.''

His half-sister, Pyramid Monarch, will continue her campaign in a c1-c2 1950m mobile trot. She is back to the c1 grade after 14 starts since her last win and will be aided by the preferential barrier draw conditions for Friday's race.

One of Williamson's biggest guns, Springbank Sam, is likely to trial at Oamaru next week before a fresh-up run in the Canterbury Park Trotting Cup at Addington on October 9. He retains a nomination for the group 1 Dominion Trot in November.

''We're hoping that he will put his best foot forward. He needs to be at his best, that's for sure, where he's got to race.

''His track work is good, so I just hope he can carry it through to his races.''

Monty Python is expected to be at New Zealand Cup week, just not in the group 1 races despite originally being nominated for the Dominion.

''We just thought give him another year,'' Williamson said.

''At this stage, he's a step below the stars. The top horses are just a little bit better than him - he's a bloody good horse and we're thrilled with what he's achieved, but I'm thinking if he went around in the Dominion and went out of his skin, he might run eighth. What's really the point of that?''

The 6yr-old will line up in a c3-c6 2600m trot on Friday before being worked towards the ''lesser races'' at the New Zealand Cup meeting.

Father Christmas is another Cup week hopeful lower down in the grades.

''Hopefully, we can get to one of the cup days with him,'' Williamson said.

''He's done a bit of fast work but needs to do some more and have a trial and then he'll be ready to go.''

Springbank Eden is ''probably just a little bit behind'' on the path to New Zealand Cup week.

''There are plenty of races if he doesn't make the cup meeting, but he'll be ready to go round November or December.''

Heard The Whisper is about two to three weeks away from racing, and impressive debut winner Le Lievre's Gift is

being sold.
