Racing: Shuffling in Cup, Dominion rankings

Wins across Australia over the past two weeks have seen plenty of shuffling in both the New Zealand Cup and Dominion Trot rankings.

The top eight spots in the New Zealand Cup rankings had been quite static until this week's rankings.

Franco Ledger's win in the Preux Chevalier free for all at Melton two Fridays ago - almost 25m ahead of fellow Cup aspirant Arden Rooney in sixth - pushes him up to fourth, ahead of Franco Nelson who is yet to appear on race day this season.

Tiger Tara took plenty of attention with his close second to Christen Me in the New Brighton Cup and he jumps up two spots to sixth.

On the fringes, Bit Of A Legend moves up to 18th on the back of his impressive third in the New Brighton Cup. No Doctor's brave fourth in the same race after setting up the speed gives him a seven spot rise to 27th.

Brilliant Strike's outstanding win in the lower grades on Friday night nudges him up to 24th. Mach's Gladiator's win the week prior gets him into the top 30.

Four withdrawals gave artificial improvements to many trotters' rankings for the Dominion Trot.

Clover Don, Maori Time, Sol Invictus and Waterloo Sunset have all come out of consideration for the group 1 3200m feature.

Clover Don's withdrawal brings Realmein into the top 15, but Valmagne and Quite A Moment are right behind him after finishing second and third respectively in the DG Jones Trotting Cup on Sunday.

Overanova has won twice in the past two weekends at Albion Park, earning a jump to 18th ahead of Springbank Sam and Royal Aspirations. The DG Jones Trotting Cup was also kind to Prestine, with her fourth placing earning a rise to 27th on the rankings.

The next round of rankings will be released next week. Cup hopefuls Lancewood Lizzie, Ohoka Punter, Ideal Success and Sky Major line up in the Spring Cup at Alexandra Park on Friday night, while Realmein, Leanne's Boy and Al Bundy take their places in the feature trot at Alexandra Park.

There will be plenty of interest in the c4 and faster handicap trot at Addington on Friday, particularly with the return of the fresh up Stent, Master Lavros, Habibti, Uncas, Kincaslough and Jag's Invasion.

Lewy Risk, Quick As A Trick and Delightful Dash appear in the tight class 1950m mobile pace.
