Racing: All Stars Stabledominant again

Two rich age-group races at Addington on Saturday, two All Stars Stables trifectas.

The juggernaut that is the Mark Purdon and Natalie Rasmussen training combination rolled on at Addington on Saturday, even if the Nevele R Fillies final did not go entirely to script.

The money had been pouring in for Golden Goddess since the TAB opened the final field market for the final on Wednesday morning.

At least $15,000 in big bets had been invested on Golden Goddess in the days leading up to the 3yr-old fillies final, while Dream About Me was practically ignored by punters after Golden Goddess ended her unbeaten streak at Addington last month.

"We had $17 in total on her until Saturday morning,'' bookmaker Richard Wilson said.

But wonder filly Dream About Me was back to her best in Saturday's group 1 dash over 1950m, holding off Golden Goddess, who trailed for the last lap, and stablemate Piccadilly Princess.

Dream About Me's time of 2.18.1 eclipsed the national record of 2.18.2 set by The Orange Agent in last year's Nevele R final.

"I knew we were rolling all the way,'' driver Mark Purdon told Trackside's Greg O'Connor.

"I didn't know whether we had gone a record, but I knew the time would be pretty slick.''

Purdon settled back from barrier 5 before scooting forward to lead at the bell.

"There was plenty of speed on early and I wasn't really amongst it, so I thought it gives me an opportunity to have a crack for the front and take it from there.''

The pre-race theories suggested whichever filly of the three All Stars runners drew best would be the best chance, which is why Golden Goddess was backed so heavily after drawing barrier 1.

While it did not work out that way on Saturday, Purdon believes the draws will have a part to play in this Saturday's New Zealand Oaks.

"They're three very good fillies and it's really the draws and the runs that will separate them.''

More The Better saw off stablemates Pacing Major and Ultimate Machete in the $195,000 2yr-old male sales series final after what could only be described as a bizarre start.

Only Purdon driving More The Better and Zac Butcher, the reinsman of Mitch Maguire, showed any interest in going forward when the barrier arms folded back.

Mitch Maguire led, before More The Better pulled out to take the lead again with 1600m to go, and was never headed despite a strong finish from Pacing Major.

More The Better's time of 2.18.7 was 1.3sec inside the previous record for the juvenile male pacers over 1950m, and Purdon was not surprised to hear the quick time.

"I had to burn him hard early, and eventually let Zac go and then came back around them. The first 400m was very, very quick.''

Enghien provided the demolition of the day with his 12 length win in the sales series juvenile trot, while Christen Me did what was required to chase down Mighty Flying Mac in the free-for-all, with Titan Banner finishing strongly for second in his first start in the All Stars colours.

The All Stars' success was not just limited to New Zealand though, as Waikiki Beach extended his unbeaten run to 18 wins with success at Menangle on Saturday night.
