A filly bred by Phil Creighton, of East Taieri, and
Stewart Gillman, of Lochiel, fetched second-top price of
$110,000 at the New Zealand Premier Yearling Sale in
Christchurch yesterday.
The daughter of Bettor's Delight and Asabella was bought by
Rolleston horseman Mark Purdon, who trained Asabella for her
two wins and several placings in the early 2000s.
Asabella (In The Pocket-Bellisimo) has produced two other
foals.
One has raced, Code Red (by Red River Hanover).
He has had two wins and five placings from 11 starts.
Creighton sold a Bettor's Delight-Pocket A Dream colt for
$45,000 on the first day of the sale on Tuesday, to John
Street and Graeme Blackburn of Lincoln Farms, Helensville.
He is a brother to the 2yr-old filly Bettor Move It, who has
had a win and a second from two starts.
Creighton received $26,000 yesterday for a filly by Christian
Cullen from Cartier.
Creighton and his wife, Margaret, have been breeding
standardbreds for 27 years.
Mark Purdon paid $90,000 for a brother to Highview Tommy bred
by Highview Standardbreds, Riverton.
Highview Tommy has earned $500,461 from the stable of Purdon
and Grant Payne.
Trevor Lindsay, of Western Australia, paid third-top price of
$95,000 for a filly by Artsplace from Kate's First (16 wins).
The filly is from the family of the champion Christian
Cullen.
Tony Herlihy went to $90,000 for a colt by Christian Cullen
from the speedy Gail Devers, who traces to the family of
Lento.
Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan paid $90,000 for a half-brother
by McArdle to the up-and-coming Lancome (by Courage Under
Fire).
The top price was $140,000, paid by Sydney couple Emilio and
Maria Rosati for a trotting-bred filly by top French sire
Love You from Eilish Mac.
She has left the talented trotters Earl Of Mot (by Earl), 15
wins including the group one Australasian Breeders' Crown
3yr-old Final and the New South Wales Trotters' Mile), and
his sister Ella Powell (six wins including the group two New
Zealand Trotting Oaks) and Harriet Hughes (by Sundon), the
winner of five races.
The Rosatis operate a construction business.
Mosgiel breeders Syd and Shona Brown bought back their two
lots offered yesterday.
The average yesterday was $24,213, down 10% on last year.
The clearance rate was 77% compared with 80% last year.
• Top racemare Kiwi Ingenuity had a bone chip removed from
her near-side knee yesterday.
The 5yr-old underwent exploratory surgery in Christchurch
yesterday and the bone chip was detected.
She has had niggly knee problems for some time.
Kiwi Ingenuity has not raced since winning at Alexandra Park
on December 18.
The daughter of Christian Cullen and Kiwi Express has
recorded 11 wins and eight placings for stakes of $501,687
from the Leithfield Beach stable of Robbie Holmes.
• Tact Lizzie should add the group two $40,000 Premier Mares
Championship at Addington tonight to her record win in the NZ
Breeders' Stakes last Friday night.
Tact Lizzie has drawn three over the 1950m (mobile) and looks
capable of leading throughout.
Crystal Star and Telemecanique, who finished second and third
to her respectively last week, have both drawn the second
row.
• The seven New Zealand Interdominion pacing representatives
have mainly faired well in the barrier draws for the opening
night of the Interdominions tomorrow.
The series starts at Harold Park in Sydney before moving to
Newcastle the following Saturday with the $A1 million final
at Menangle on Sunday, March 7.
Last start-winners Bondy (barrier two) in the last heat and
Monkey King (barrier four) in the third heat could well start
favourites in their heats, which do not look strong.
Bondy will clash with Baileys Dream (barrier four), while
Monkey King, the $4 series favourite, will be the only New
Zealand pacer in his heat.
Changeover is now the $6 second favourite for his heat and
has barrier six, wide on the front line against defending
champion Mr Feelgood (barrier 10) and Karloo Mick (three).
Our Awesome Armbro (two) and Pembrook Benny (five) meet
three-time Interdominion champion Blacks A Fake (barrier
four) and Smoken Up (one on the second line) in the toughest
heat of the opening night.
