Harness Racing New Zealand has rejected the One Racing
proposal recommended by New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing and
the New Zealand Racing Board.
The taskforce One Racing report was released in November 2009
and recommended the combining of the NZRB and the three
racing codes (thoroughbreds, harness racing and greyhounds).
The executive of Harness Racing New Zealand undertook a
preliminary review of the proposal in December 2009 and
requested clarification on a number of questions pertaining
to the One Racing proposal.
In the absence of a reply, the executive further reviewed its
position on the issue last Wednesday and drafted four
resolutions.
That Harness Racing New Zealand reaffirm its position that
governance of the New Zealand racing codes be retained
separate and that HRNZ rejects the current One Racing
proposal and not be involved in any further review of such a
governance structure.
That HRNZ commit its support for further exploring shared
services efficiencies with the NZRB and other codes.
That HRNZ recommend to the NZRB and other codes that a shared
services executive committee be established with two
appointees from each body.
To recommend that this committee be responsible for exploring
costs savings from shared services efficiencies on a segment
by segment basis, assessing the resources required and
developing programmes and timetables for implementation,
including an industry communications plan.
The resolutions reaffirmed the belief of HRNZ that code
governance must be retained independent of the NZRB and the
other codes.
HRNZ is to proactively explore administrative cost savings
and improved services for the benefit of industry
stakeholders.

Denman seems to have a stranglehold on the Australian Guineas
but Bart Cummings is willing to take him on with emerging
talent Rock Classic, AAP reports.
The Cummings-trained So You Think was seen as the logical
measuring stick for Denman but the trainer abandoned the Cox
Plate winner's autumn preparation after he put in a
lacklustre gallop last Friday week.
Denman extended his record to three from three this campaign
when he easily won at Caulfield on Saturday.
Rock Classic made hard work of his win at Rosehill but it was
enough to convince Cummings to send him south for the
Australian Guineas (1600m) on March 6, where he will wear
blinkers.
"He's as green as grass.
He was all over the place but he's a horse with a lot of
ability," Cummings said.
Rock Classic is a $41 chance for the Guineas with TAB
Sportsbet with Denman at $1.36.
The biggest firmer was Set For Fame who came into $5 after
her win in the Angus Armanasco at Caulfield on Saturday.
