Otago crews won two bronze medals at the national rowing championships on Lake Ruataniwha yesterday.

Andrew Potter, of Otago University Rowing Club, won bronze in the men's under-22 coxless pair with Cameron Crampton.

Representing Southern RPC, the pair finished third behind two Waikato RPC crews in 7min 11.20sec.

Oamaru's novice coxed quad of Riku Koyama, Jared Brenssell, Osca Pedersen, Angus Harper and coxswain Jess Mulligan won the other medal, claiming bronze in 7min 01.92sec.

The crew was pipped to the silver medal by Canterbury, with just 0.76sec between the two.

Wanganui's crew won in 6min 55.26sec.

Oamaru's Maysie Scott missed out on a place in the women's under-20 single scull A final earlier in the week, but picked up a consolation win in the B final, finishing in 8min 32.16sec.

Wanaka brothers Eachann and Riley Bruce missed out on a place in the men's club double scull A final, as Waihopai, Hawkes Bay, Wakatipu and Avon crews edged past them in yesterday's semifinal.

The pair will race in the B final today.

However, there are plenty of Otago rowers in finals action today.

Oamaru's Brenssell and Pedersen will race in the novice double final.

Bryce Abernethy will represent Southern RPC in the lightweight men's premier single, while Otago University Rowing Club's Natasha Bonham-Carter and Hazel Cunliffe are in the women's club double final.

Emma Winders and Claudia Grave, also of the University club, are in the senior women's double scull final.

World and Olympic champion Hamish Bond, of North End, will represent Southern RPC in the men's premier coxless four.

The national championships finish tomorrow.
